   Gather in Nikko shrines and temples the evening before departure. Your guide covers daily distances, waymarking, emergency contacts, and the cultural significance of the route.

   Opening stage

   First walking day. Pace is gentle — this is about settling into the rhythm. Your guide introduces waymarking conventions and shares the route's history as you walk.

3. 3

   Mid-route rhythm

   Daily walking stages with rest points at shrines, mountain huts, or historic landmarks. Accommodation is arranged; you carry only your daypack.

4. 4

   Deeper landscape

   Often the most dramatic section. Higher ground, quieter paths, and time to walk in silence if preferred. Evening hosts share local knowledge.

5. 5

   Arrival & completion

   Final stage into the destination. Your guide leads a closing ritual — stamp collection, bell-ringing, or a quiet moment at the terminal shrine. Certificate issued where applicable.

This route respects shinto / buddhist practice. You will receive guidance on etiquette, dress and access at every site. Hosts coordinate with local clergy, monastics or licensed guides to ensure respectful, informed visits.
